Over half of a brand session is actually preparing for the brand session. We have planning meeting(s) to determine what types of photos you need, what you’ll be using them for, what type of location(s) will work best, shot lists, etc. Here are some tips to prepare YOURSELF!
The Week(s) Before
- NAILS: If you are wearing open toed shoes or have any close ups of hands that might be
included, be sure to get a manicure/pedicure or paint your nails yourself. - ROUTINE: The week before, try to avoid changes to your skincare routine. This is not the time to
try new products, especially if you have sensitive skin. You want to try and avoid your skin being
irritated. - HAIR AND MAKE UP: Either make an appointment to have your hair and make up done or nail
down how you want to do it yourself. You can do this by looking at ideas online. Be sure to use
more make up than you normally would. More tips on that to come in an upcoming blog post!
For hair, I like to look back at pictures from the last year or two (or at least when you had the
same haircut you currently do). See which pictures you are more drawn too and think your hair
looks the best. These would be good styles to consider using on your session day. - WARDROBE: Finalize your wardrobe, see post on how to choose your wardrobe.
- PROTECT YOUR SKIN: Be sure to wear sunscreen to avoid any nasty burns right before your session.
The Day Before
- GET SLEEP! Be sure to get a good night sleep.
- PREP YOUR CLOTHES: Be sure to iron or steam any garments that need it you plan on bringing.
- GATHER PROPS: Gather Props you need to bring to the session, we will have gone over this in our pre-session meetings. Make sure these are all gathered either in a bag or in the car so you don’t forget them in the morning rush!
- UNDERGARMENTS: Double check undergarments, avoid bra straps and panty lines
The Day Of

It’s your day to feel like a Boss!
